This current flow has me

In its undertow of sorrow

I battle and claw against the void

Looking up to see your face

Harder still I struggle to surface

Fighting the impulse to breathe

The clarity of your eyes fade.

A breath and darkness you’re gone.

Covered by this heavenly darkness

From within I can only reach

This last effort in hope and prayers

To remove the veil of her from me

A brisk swift flailing motion

The veil torn, and removed, I come out gasping

Your name is spoken from the depths we’ve all been

A strained heartbeat and tears streaming.

A few breaths and you’re real

A sigh, a hard look at you, a smile

My hand on your cheek, holding

A kiss from your lips

Deep into my soul, your kiss reaches

Into the eyes, orbs of faith and prayer

I see my angel hover over me

In the pews of this mass, I am attentive.

I shall not wander but be at arms’ length

I shall never refuse a kiss

Shall always be at the ready

For the touch you give heals every pain

My clear spirit of light and hope

In my autumn pew of fire

The boy’s youth between us in the summer

And you, the sunlit days to come.
